Crystals play an instrumental role in many spiritual practices as people incorporate them within their everyday routines to boost productivity, relieve stress, protect the immune system and enhance their skincare routines.  Adele blames losing her crystals for the sound problems in her 2016 Grammy performance and Katy Perry notes that she ‘carries a lot of rose quartz’ which ensures that she is ‘never single for long’.  Victoria Beckham has admitted to recruiting a crystal healer in her flagship store.

Crystals often spark images of gem stones that are used to replicate diamonds in the likes of costume jewellery.  However, crystals also consist of semi – precious stones and rocks that for the most part, are a crystalline form of minerals.  Crystals are said to contain vibrancy frequencies that alter energy and manipulate their surroundings. In skincare, the likes of tourmaline and rose quartz can transform problem skin.

Each crystal transmits its own energy and can be used as a tangible medium to manifest our intentions.  Many believe that believe that holding crystals reminds you of your intention and therefore amplifies your intentions.  Here, health and wellbeing specialist Jordan Carter at Instash presents a beginners guide to the most popular crystals with expert advice on their meaning, what are used for and how to use them to boost skincare and wellbeing.

Lifestyle and Wellness – ‘Citrine is commonly used to attract money and is known as the ‘merchants stone’, says Carter.  ‘It is said to attract money, so it is wise to place it in your purse, on your office desk or anywhere else that is relevant to your financial wellbeing’.

Citrine is said to be one of the best crystals for healing the digestive system as it can work in aiding stomach pain, ulcers and acid reflux.

Crystal practitioners often use Citrine to alleviate anxiety and depression as it is said to absorb negativity however, it does not hold onto it.

Skincare – Citrine is a stone that generates happiness and holds regenerative properties which aids in cell renewal.  Citrine infused skincare helps to even skin tone and promote the skins radiance.

Lifestyle and wellness – Arguably the most popular crystal in any practitioner’s collection, the rose quartz is a millennial pink stone that is said to balance, heal and transform emotions.  Rose Quartz can aid in heart break and is often gifted to those who have experienced a particularly bad break up.  Rose quartz can also attract love.

Rose quartz calms and takes away any tension and stress.  It can also boost circulation and has a cooling effect on the skin.  Rose quartz aids in settling skin that is inflamed.

Skincare – Beauty tools are having a moment.  Rose quartz rollers are excellent for skin conditions such as rosacea as it works the microcirculations which is the circulation of the smallest blood vessels in the skin.  The crystal is  made up of iron, oxygen and magnesium which flushes out dead skin cells.

‘Rose quartz is to be kept out of the sun to avoid losing its colour’, says Carter at Gear Hungry.  ‘The stone is made up of silicon dioxide and fibres known as dididumortierite that gives it its unique colour’.

Lifestyle and wellness – Known as the daily disinfectant for the soul, black tourmaline eliminates negative energy.  Those that practice crystals often place the crystal near to electronics such as computers, phones and televisions as it is a mineral that absorbs electromagnetic radiation.

Skincare – Working to break down the toxins and unclog pores, black tourmaline vitalizes the skin ensuring that it is youthful in its appearance.  When tourmaline is warmed, and rubbed onto the skin, they become positively charged at one end and negatively charged at the other.  For this reason, the crystal often features in exfoliants, moisturisers and anti-ageing products as they absorb nutrients into the skin.

Skincare – Whilst goldstone may not have any known benefits to the skin, it is said to lower the pain in conditions such as arthritis and strengthen the circulatory system.

Skincare – The Rhodonite is said to lessen the chances of Acne scarring and can also lessen stress.  If rubbed on areas of the skin that are affected by acne, the magnesium within the stone aids in preventing scarring.  Rhodonite can in fact be used on all wounds.
