Nervous Brits have anxiety as social distancing restrictions are set to be lifted

As it’s announced that the 19 July is set to see the end to compulsory social distancing and mask wearing, a new study has revealed many Brits are anxious about the loosening of restrictions due to heightened health concerns.

A survey of 2,006 UK adults from medical ID charity, MedicAlert has revealed that following the pandemic, 77% of UK adults are anxious about the loosening of restrictions this summer.

Despite the final roadmap out of lockdown confirming that the rule of six for gatherings and table service in pubs and restaurants is due to be scrapped and nightclubs are set to reopen, over a third (35%) of those polled plan to shun large crowds and social gatherings due to health anxiety.

When asked about the reasons for feeling nervous about the loosening of restrictions, 12% said they’re concerned about a greater chance of being in a medical emergency and 15% said a reduced availability of emergency services.

Despite these increased health concerns, only 7% of those polled have an emergency contact in place who can provide medical information in an emergency.

Kirsten Giles, CEO at MedicAlert, comments; “After 18 months of various restrictions on our daily lives, there was always going to be mixed responses to the final roadmap being announced and anxiety about our health. For those who have had periods of shielding during the pandemic, this is particularly natural.”

“Going to larger social gatherings and public places with large crowds can be daunting for those with health concerns when restrictions of our movements have become the norm. Preparation is key and anxiety about experienced health issues shouldn’t be a barrier for enjoying quality time with friends and family.”

“For those seeking additional safety and peace of mind in advance of restrictions being lifted, MedicAlert provides the UKs only full medical ID service, which helps save lives by providing access to vital medical information in an emergency – keeping you safe wherever you are.”
