Choose sourdough for a wholesome breakfast or healthy lunch

Whether it’s a wholesome breakfast, a healthy lunch or a quick and tasty munch, the master Bertinet Bakers believe that everyone should be able to enjoy better quality bread – made with just flour, water, sea salt and nothing else.

If you like a soft crumb, chewy texture and a crunchy crust, The Bertinet Bakery Whole Loaf range won’t disappoint, available in White, Traditional (with both brown and white grains), Seeded, Olive and Focaccia.

Simply divine dipped in balsamic and oil or tearing and sharing over freshly made soup – enjoy!

The range is made using Bertinet Bakery’s signature 20-year-old starter dough, nurtured daily to cultivate natural yeasts and good bacteria for a healthier gut. There is increasing research to show that a healthier gut impacts all round physical and mental health.

According to Registered Nutritionist, Jenna Hope, the fibre and fermentation process in sourdough is central to its gut health benefits and as a nation we are not getting enough fibre.

“In the UK just 13% of men and 4% of women are reaching the recommendations for fibre of 30g per day”, said Jenna.

“The fermentation of fibre acts as a prebiotic in the gut, producing short chain fatty acids such as butyrate, acetate and propionate, which feed the commensal ‘good’ bacteria optimising gut function and nutrient absorption.

“Butyrate also promotes the production of white blood cells which are pivotal players in the promotion of a healthy adaptive immune system. Try switching up to sourdough for your sandwiches and toast. Bertinet Bakery Seeded Sourdough contains 8% of fibre per slice as well as offering additional gut health benefits.

bertinet-sourdough-bread “Fibre in sourdough has been shown to reduce intestinal inflammation. Throughout the fermentation process of sourdough, enzymatic conversions occur to increase the solubility of gluten and adapt the activity of enzymes in the wheat. As a result, this can make the gluten easier to tolerate in those who are gluten intolerant”.
