Tahoe’s Ski Season Stoke Has Arrived: Fresh Snow & More in the Forecast!
As winter weather settles into South Lake Tahoe, ski resorts are gearing up for a thrilling season of snow-filled adventures. Fresh snowfall and ongoing snowmaking efforts have brought early season stoke, with multiple days of accumulation forecasted. These ideal conditions mean the region’s iconic resorts are ready to open, with Heavenly Mountain Resort already up and running since November 22nd, and Sierra-at-Tahoe opening earlier on November 19th. Kirkwood, weather permitting, is slated to open on December 6th. The snow is falling, and winter fun awaits!
Skiing & Snowboarding: New Experiences Await
This season promises exciting new experiences for both seasoned skiers and snowboarding enthusiasts. Heavenly Mountain Resort has introduced Golden State Kitchen at California Main Lodge, offering healthy, delicious menu options to fuel your day on the slopes. Ski and Ride School lessons are also more accessible than ever, now available in ten languages to cater to the resort’s international guests. For those looking to elevate their gear, Heavenly offers the “My Epic Gear” membership program, which gives access to high-quality ski and snowboard equipment with premium valet services.
Sierra-at-Tahoe joins the Ikon Pass family this year, meaning even more access to its thrilling slopes for pass holders. New upgrades, such as haul ropes on the Easy Rider Express and Nob Hill Chairlift, revamped parking lots, and new snowmaking fan guns, promise to enhance the resort experience. Despite the challenges posed by the 2021 Caldor Fire, Sierra continues to offer unparalleled terrain, with wide-open bowls and world-class terrain parks ready for exploration.
In a continued effort to reduce their environmental impact, all of Tahoe’s ski resorts are focusing on sustainability. Kirkwood has introduced food waste digesters and automated dumpster sensors to help minimize landfill contributions, while Heavenly is supporting South Lake Tahoe’s single-use plastic water bottle ban. Reforestation efforts at Sierra-at-Tahoe are also progressing, with over 1,000 seedlings planted during the resort’s Keep Sierra Clean Day in October.
Resort Renovations & Dining Delights
Off the slopes, the South Lake Tahoe area is experiencing a revitalization of its resorts and dining spots. Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe (formerly Hard Rock Hotel) is undergoing a complete renovation, with a new lobby, suites, restaurants, and outdoor pool expected by 2025. Saltgrass Steak House opened in the fall, bringing a casual yet upscale atmosphere, serving mouthwatering steaks, seafood, and scratch-made desserts.
Dining options continue to evolve at Harrah’s and Harveys Lake Tahoe as well. The recently opened Wolf by Vanderpump is quickly becoming a fan favorite, while Gordon Ramsay’s HELL’S KITCHEN has expanded to include 56 new seats, a new entrance, and an upgraded bar and wine display. The property is also preparing for the highly anticipated Brew Brothers opening in 2025, promising even more excitement for guests.
This summer, Coachman Hotel unveiled a new 900-square-foot, tech-equipped meeting space with an outdoor patio, expanding its total meeting space to 1,900 square feet of flexible indoor/outdoor options. For something unique, the Merry and Mulled Market is returning to the area on December 7th. Guests can shop from local and regional vendors while sipping wine and enjoying the holiday spirit.
Festive Family Fun
New this year, guests can also enjoy the Lake Tahoe Ferris Wheel (Dec. 27-31) and a range of other fun activities, including snowshoe experiences and a Champagne & Chocolate Sleigh Ride Tasting Experience. For more details, be sure to visit visitlaketahoe.com.
Additionally, the 4th Annual Festival of Winter Lights (Dec. 13-14) at the Lake Tahoe Museum promises a magical evening with free winter carriage rides, a Christmas fire truck, and plenty of food, drinks, and local shopping.
Exciting Nightlife & Entertainment
The Tahoe Blue Event Center is bringing big names to the stage this holiday season. From The Black Crowes on December 3rd to John Legend’s Christmas on December 6th, the event center is also hosting a two-night Après Ski NYE (Dec. 30-31) to ring in 2025 with top electronic music artists like Kaskade and Thomas Towey.
