Fast track cancer diagnostic services

Harley Street Cancer Concierge launches a new services designed to reduce patient anxiety and speed access to treatment.

For patients with a diagnosis of suspected cancer, the endless delays before tests to confirm the diagnosis are naturally a time of great anxiety. To help minimise the waiting times and to speed patients’ access to treatment, Harley Street Cancer Concierge (HSCC) has launched a fast track cancer diagnostic service to be completed within 24 hours of a patient’s enquiry.

Darren Rowe of HSCC explained why this service has been developed: “The most common enquiries that we get are for rapid testing and diagnosis. People call us when they have been referred by their GP for a consultation with a specialist but they don’t want to wait for the appointment which can take up to two weeks, and then several further weeks undergoing tests and investigations before the diagnosis is established.

Naturally, they and their families want a diagnosis right away but they don’t know what to do. Our new service is a response to their anxious concerns, we organise scans and biopsies, usually within 24 hours, often within the same working day, and we offer a second opinion service too. If treatment is needed, most patients can start within 5 days of their first call to us or they can go back to the NHS for their next appointment with their test results in hand. Either way, the speed of this service will have helped them. The anxiety of waiting is removed and the treatment of their condition can begin much earlier”.

Dr Andy Gaya, a consultant in clinical oncology, commented “this is a much needed service which expedites the diagnostic process for patients to their very limit. It ensures that patients can get an accurate diagnosis asfast as possible, have it explained clearly, and start treatment extremely rapidly. This minimises the trauma and anxiety at a very uncertain time both for patients and their families.”
