The area can roughly be defined to include Lumphini Park and Rama IV to the east, the Chao Phraya River to the west and Silom Road to the north.
The area benefits from excellent public transport access, there are BTS (skytrain) stations at Silom, Sala Deang, Chong Nonsi and Surasak, not to mention MRT (metro) stations at Lumphini and Silom and a BRT (bus) station at Chong Nonsi.
Defined as the city’s “CBD”, due to its ubiquitous skyscrapers and international companies, Sathorn is the preferred location of many expatriates living and working in Bangkok. But don’t be fooled into thinking this is just one big glass and concrete cage, in truth, there is a real juxtaposition of old and new in the part of town.
On weekdays, workers pour into the area to pound away at their keyboards from 9am to 5pm. As the day draws to a close, the worker bees scuttle home, and the nightlife revellers descend. Where to live in Sathorn
No matter if you want to be in a quiet side-street or right in the thick of the action, Sathorn can meet your needs. The area is replete with a lot of modern high-rise buildings with state-of-the-art facilities and older, low-rise ones with extensive grounds.
If it is an actual house you’re after, consider heading south of Sathon Road towards Nanglinchi and Yenakart. If your budget is tight, you’ll need to get away from the mass transit hubs. The deeper you go in the sois (i.e., backstreets), the cheaper rent gets. On the plus side, these areas usually have more of a community feel.
