Learn to Make Bread the French Way

Artisan bakery launches immersive French bread-making workshops in London

Few culinary experiences evoke comfort and tradition quite like a freshly baked French baguette. Crisp on the outside, soft and airy within, authentic French bread is defined by simplicity, terroir-driven ingredients and time-honoured techniques that prioritise patience over speed. Now, you don’t need to travel to France to experience it.

Artisan French bakery school Comptoir Bakery School, located on Druid Street in Bermondsey, London, has launched a new French bread-making workshop, inviting bread lovers to learn the art of traditional baking directly from French master bakers.

Discover the Art of Authentic French Bread Making

In this immersive three-hour bread-making class, participants will learn how to create classic French loaves including sourdough bread, baguettes and fougasse—all in one session. Using Comptoir Bakery’s own sourdough starter, attendees are guided step by step through kneading, shaping and understanding the fermentation process that gives French bread its distinctive flavour and texture.

Designed for complete beginners and experienced home bakers alike, the workshops offer a hands-on introduction to traditional French baking methods, empowering you to recreate bakery-quality bread at home and fill your kitchen with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked loaves.

Why Is French Bread So Good?

French baker Quentin Wind of Comptoir Bakery School explains:

“I know I may be biased, but there’s nothing quite like French bread.

It’s all about simple, quality ingredients—just flour, water, salt and yeast—combined with slow fermentation, carefully selected flours and precise baking techniques. This is what creates that signature crispy crust and soft interior, allowing the flavours to shine and delivering a true taste of French tradition.”
