Teenager beats anxiety using simple self-help app

A teenage boy with complex post-traumatic stress disorder has been enabled to reduce his anxiety and regain a normal life using a simple ‘tapping’ technique that is accessible via a smartphone.

Thirteen-year-old Will* had been dependent on the constant support and presence of a trusted adult throughout his life including at school and high levels of anxiety sometimes prevented him from leaving the house. Following a single session to introduce him to the Zenpower tapping technique, Will immediately gained the confidence to start conducting everyday tasks independently for the first time. Within a week of following the technique, Will felt comfortable being on his own and said that he no longer needed support at school.

Zenpower is based on trusted and proven techniques backed by numerous studies that can help individuals to manage stress and anxiety through a series of exercises lasting around five minutes per session.

Steve, one of Zenpower’s directors said, “The technique is simple to follow with minimal instruction, does not require a huge time commitment and works very quickly. Data from our research studies indicate that all Zenpower users experience a significant reduction in anxiety and stress of 67 per cent on average following a five-minute session.

“While this technique is not a panacea for all cases of anxiety, its efficacy and accessibility make it worth trying for everyone especially young people who currently face an average wait time of 18 months following a referral to Children and Adolescents Mental Health Services (CAMHS).”

The technique has gained broad acclaim including from world-leading hypnotherapist Paul McKenna who said, “Psychosensory therapies are one of the major breakthrough therapies of modern times. They have been scientifically proven to successfully treat anxiety and stress disorders effectively and quickly with astounding results.”

Will’s mother said, “We had spent many years trying to find a solution for our son’s crippling anxiety. An unknown trauma in childhood left him feeling constantly overwhelmed, nervous and on edge. We thought that we had tried every type of therapy until we came across Zenpower by chance. We saw a difference in Will after the very first session. He immediately became calmer and more confident and quickly started to feel comfortable on his own, trying out new things. The difference that Zenpower has made to our son’s life is astonishing and we would certainly encourage other parents facing the same issue to try this technique.”

Zenpower is the brainchild of directors Steve and Kevin, both licensed therapists across a range of disciplines. They brought Zenpower to the market after over 15 years of development work and it is now accessible to all via subscription to an app. The technique uses an algorithm to work out a sequence based on 14 tapping points on the face and body.

Steve added, “As the new academic year gets underway, we are keen to raise awareness of the app for children who might struggle with making the transition to a new school or year group. Zenpower is easy to use and cost effective and requires a low time commitment. We really hope that raising the profile of this technology will help to address the growing mental health crisis amongst children and young people in the UK.”

Subscription to the Zenpower app costs £36.00 per year (less than 10p per day) and includes a free trial for one week. It is also available to businesses who want to support the mental health and wellbeing of their employees.
