City Lit launches tickets for Mental Wealth Festival 2022

What: Mental Wealth Festival

When: 10th-14th October

Where: Online and in person across London venues

22nd September 2022: Launching on World Mental Health Day, City Lit’s eighth Mental Wealth Festival is taking place from 10th-14th October and will focus on the importance of time and how we spend it.

With tickets now available from https://www.citylit.ac.uk/mwf this year’s festival will invite guests to explore the time they have and how they use it. The programme of events will inspire people to dedicate time to self-care and wellbeing, whether through learning and self-development, spending time with loved ones or engaging in new activities.

Hosted by City Lit in partnership with Beyond Words, the National Gallery and Royal Opera House, the Mental Wealth Festival will offer free or low-fee events, including in person and online workshops, talks, discussions, exhibitions, and other activities.

Current speakers include:

  • Paul Farmer CBE, City Lit Fellow and Chief Executive of leading mental health charity Mind
  • Mark Malcomson CBE, Principal and Chief Executive of City Lit
  • Baroness Hollins, City Lit Fellow, Patron of the Mental Wealth Festival and founder, editor and lead author of the Books Beyond Words series
  • Kenneth Erhahon (better known by his stage name Shocka), rapper and mental health advocate from Tottenham who gained recognition for being one third of Grime collective Marvell alongside Double S and Vertex
  • Jon Salmon, award-winning video executive producer, digital pioneer and co-founder of branded entertainment agency Byte Entertainment
  • Sharon Wilson, Best Self Coach and creator of Complimentary Kindness, which was created to connect people and communities in a kind, uplifting and positive way

Mark Malcomson CBE, Principal and Chief Executive of City Lit, commented: “In life and work we often encounter huge pressures on our time which can impact our mental health and as is often the case, time dedicated to self-care and wellbeing can often be placed low in our list of priorities.

“Our experience of the Covid pandemic and lockdowns has led many of us to re-evaluate the importance of time and how we spend it. I hope this year’s Mental Wealth Festival encourages people to take some time for themselves, invest in their mental health and prioritise their wellbeing – I, for one, am incredibly excited by our current line up.”

A multi-media exhibition, funded by an Arts Council England Project Award, will also be hosted in the City Lit Gallery. Making Good: Drawing and the Processing of Trauma will explore how the act of drawing might help to manage the way that traumatic events are processed.

The Mental Wealth Festival programme is being added to on a daily basis – https://www.citylit.ac.uk/events/mental-wealth-festival/programme.

Taster sessions will be on offer throughout the week for £5 per session and all panel discussions are free to attend.
