Shall We Talk About Your Career?

We spend so much of our lives at work that it seems a shame so many people are not happy with their job. Having said that, in the end that comes down to the individual. If you know that you are unhappy in your job, why are you sticking around? Why are you continuing to do something that you don’t enjoy and doesn’t make you feel good?

But, we also are aware that there are plenty of people who do enjoy their jobs. You’re never gonna know though until you sit back and think about it properly and that’s where we come in. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the considerations that you should be making when it comes to your career. We’re not saying that you need to think about each and everything on this list on a daily basis, but it’s always good to evaluate where you are. So, if you are interested in coming on this journey with us, feel free to read on.

Are You Happy?

The first question that we want you to ask yourself is whether or not you are happy where you are? For some, they might believe that they are happy purely because they’re not looking too much into their career path and where they’ve got to. Or, it might be a case of choosing ease and convenience over something that you actually enjoy. We can understand why people would do this, but seeing as we spend so much of our lives working it seems like a huge waste.

It’s for this reason, that if you are unhappy with your job or anything to do with your job, you need to do something about that. For some people, this is going to be talking to their boss and seeing if they can have any extra responsibilities, perhaps as a new position within the business that you would be happier at, or maybe something else entirely. The point is, you need to be going after whatever will bring you joy. The last thing that you want is to spend at least eight hours every single day doing a job that you don’t like, in a place that you don’t like.

Are You Challenged?

Do you know how many people stay at their job simply because it’s the easier option? You might know people who choose to stay employed by companies who don’t challenge them, who don’t spend time getting them to engage with the business, and Who are generally happy to leave them to do the bare minimum. The problem with this is that you are never going to be fully engaged with the business, meaning that you are never going to be happy. We know that we’ve already talked about happiness, and that we’ve now moved onto being challenged but for some people where there is no challenge, there is no happiness.

If you think about a typical day at work, what does it look like? Do you breeze through all of your tasks? Are there things that you struggle with that you need to problem solve to work out a solution? Well, the second option is the more difficult one, it is also the better one. We say this because you are engaging in your brain, you are contributing effectively to the business, and not only that but you simply won’t be bored.

Is Where You Are Where You Want To Be?

If you were being truly honest with yourself, is where you are right now where you want to be? For a lot of people, the answer is no. However, due to needing money to pay bills, people end up staying in jobs that they don’t like, getting to a point where they feel as though they are stuck. We don’t want to see this happen to you, which is why you need to determine whether the job you are in now is something that you think you would be interested in pursuing in the long-term. If it isn’t, now is the time to do something about it. You can start by looking for careers that excite you, that you think will be interesting to you, and that you can see yourself doing for a long time to come.

Alternatively, it might be true that why you are now is exactly where you want to be. If this is the case for you, then we are really happy for you. We are glad that you have found a career, and a place in that career, that brings you so much joy.

Do You Struggle To Stay Engaged?

The final thing that we are going to look at is whether or not you struggle to stay engaged. If you do, this could be happening for a number of reasons. It could be a lack of a challenge, or it could simply be the fact that knowing how to  staying focused at work is tough when your brain just doesn’t want to do it! Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason, and you just have to work out how to engage yourself easier, and what keeps you interested.

If it turns out that nothing about your job excites you, then this means it’s time for a new one. Some people struggle to stay engaged because they just don’t care, and no amount of changes you make to the way you work will fix that.

Hopefully you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you should be thinking about when it comes to your career. We understand that there are people out there at the moment who don’t want to think too deeply about their career. However, the longer that you put this off, the harder it’s gonna be when the time comes around. We wish you the very best of luck and hope that you continue on in a career that you love or find a new one sometime soon.
