The Health Lottery’s Paying it Forward Podcast with Lord Hain

Lord Peter Hain’s remarkable journey and ongoing advocacy highlighted in The Health Lottery’s Paying it Forward podcast hosted by Danni Menzies.

The latest episode of the Health Lottery’s podcast series dropping at 7am on Boxing Day features an insightful conversation with Lord Peter Hain, shedding light on his remarkable journey as an activist, author and politician, and his ongoing advocacy for social justice and humanitarian causes.

London-based Lord Hain, a former anti-apartheid activist and Member of Parliament for over a quarter of a century, shared pivotal moments from his life, including his courageous campaign to end apartheid-era sports tours to Britain in the 1970s. His pioneering efforts, which included disrupting cricket and rugby matches involving white South African teams, played a significant role in raising awareness about the injustices of apartheid.

Reflecting on his activism during apartheid, Lord Hain stated, “It’s no good just holding up a banner outside the stadium. Let’s go and do something. We did something, and we stopped those tours.”

Lord Hain’s advocacy extended beyond apartheid-era activism, as he continued to champion causes aimed at addressing social inequalities and injustices. He recounted his success in advocating for pension support for individuals severely injured during the troubled times in Northern Ireland, highlighting the power of legislative action in effecting positive change.

In addition to his political endeavours, Lord Hain discussed his many literary contributions, particularly his bestselling thriller novels, including The Lion Conspiracy, The Elephant Conspiracy and The Rhino Conspiracy. Through his writing, Lord Hain raises awareness about pressing issues such as wildlife conservation and the illicit trade in endangered species.

Commenting on his novels, Lord Hain remarked, “A thriller is meant to be a page-turner that just wants to take you there. You get attracted to the characters, but at the end, there’s some grisly scenes, which are taken from real life.”

Lord Hain’s commitment to making a difference resonates beyond the political arena, as he encourages individuals to take action in their daily lives. From standing up against bullies to advocating for the marginalised, Lord Hain emphasises the importance of collective action in fostering positive change.

Listeners can tune in to Lord Hain’s inspiring conversation on the Health Lottery’s podcast, Paying It Forward, available on all major podcast platforms. His latest book, The Lion Conspiracy has just been published by Muswell Press.
