Get in the garden for pure relaxation

Fiskars research shows gardening to be beneficial for well-being

Now the summer months are upon us, many of us will be looking forward to spending time in our (hopefully!) sunny garden. And there is now even more of a reason to get outside in the fresh air, as new research shows that people are happier after spending time outdoors.

According to the Happiness Study, by gardening tool brand Fiskars, almost 90% of gardeners surveyed believe that gardening improves their well-being more than yoga, and 80% consider tending to their garden to be better for them than meditation.

In addition, 80% of garden enthusiasts said that gardening relieves their feelings of stress and anxiety, and 90% also saw it as a good way to keep fit.

As getting outdoors has become a way of escaping our busy lives, Fiskars is encouraging us to invest our time in the mentally healing activity of gardening, inspiring us to slow down and take some time to relax, to truly realise ‘0% Stress, 100% Happiness’.

Georgina Taylor, Trade Marketing Manager at Fiskars, says: “Spending some time outdoors, getting your hands dirty and simply just slowing down can do wonders for your health.

“Our in-depth research has revealed that many of us see gardening not as a chore, but as a highly beneficial activity for our well-being. And in these busy times, we believe that getting outside is going to become increasingly important in people’s lives, so we would like to encourage everyone to start relaxing in their garden, and achieve 0% Stress, 100% Happiness.”

Fiskars is dedicated to making gardening trouble-free with its range of technologically smart tools, and offers a range of innovative, easy-to-use gardening tools to help make tending to your garden even more enjoyable.

Here are some hints and tips from Fiskars to help get your garden into tip-top condition:

  1. Keep those weeds at bay with the help of Fiskars’ state-of-the-art Xact™ Weed Puller. With a quick pull and release action, thanks to its four deep-reaching stainless steel claws, this innovative gardening tool tackles weeds with ease. The Weed Puller is also eco-friendly, as it will remove those troublesome weeds without the use of harmful pesticides.
  2. Try and keep your lawn trim and tidy throughout the summer. Regular maintenance is the key to keeping an attractive lawn so it can remain green and luscious – whatever the weather!
  3. The most common cause of dying plants is a lack of water, so when the weather is hot, make sure you use the right amount of water on plants and flowers.
  4. It’s not only plants that can often struggle in hot and dry weather, so if you’re working in the sun, ensure you take regular breaks and drink lots of water, try to work in the shade if possible.
