Curiosity, Intelligence, and the Power of Why?
I love words, but I love the smallest words the most, and perhaps my favourite is “Why?”
As every parent has discovered, it is also the favourite word of every young child and might even have been the driving force of evolution and intelligence. Perhaps we should ask “Why” more often than “What” or “How?”
In this article, I hope to stimulate readers’ imagination and interest by presenting a few strange and interesting facts. Here are just a few peculiar facts that merit asking “Why?”
Breathing
We are told a human breathes between 12 and 20 breaths per minute at rest, which equals, on average, 24,000 breaths per day, equal to the number of solar years in a cosmic year. Or the number of breaths in a day mirrors one solar year. A cosmic year is a duration in years it takes for the vernal point to move through the entire zodiac, currently the vernal point is in Pisces on March 21. At the birth of Christ, 2000 years ago, the vernal equinox was in Aries, and it takes about 24,000 years to pass through all twelve zodiac signs.
It would be interesting to know “why” this remarkable relationship exists.
Number of Breaths in a Lifetime
Another interesting fact about breathing is that all mammals, including humans, have the same number of breaths in a lifetime, roughly 500 million. Thus, a whale or an elephant that breathes about five breaths per minute can live to well over 100 years, but a tiny shrew that breathes 300 to 500 breaths per minute can barely live a year.
See the table below:
| Mammal | Breaths/Minute | Lifespan/Years |
| Whale | 3-5 | 130-200 |
| Elephant | 5-12 | 65-130 |
| Man | 12-20 | 45-110 |
| Horse | 12-15 | 45-55 |
| Sheep | 16-34 | 20-40 |
| Cat | 20-40 | 15-30 |
| Dog | 20-30 | 15-20 |
| Cow | 25-50 | 15-25 |
| Pig | 30-60 | 10-20 |
| Hamster | 35-135 | 5-10 |
| Mouse | 90-250 | 2-7 |
| Shrew | 300-800 | 1-2 |
Would it not be interesting to know “why” this relationship exists and learn how to extend our lifespan?
I have discovered many facts in Rudolph Hauschka’s excellent book The Nature of Substance, which has set me thinking, “Why?”
Planets
The planets in our solar system are closely connected to metals on Earth. The table below shows how:
| Metal | Conductivity of electricity | Conductivity of heat | Solar body | Angular velocity |
| Lead | 8 | 10 | Saturn | 2 |
| Tin | 15 | 13 | Jupiter | 4 |
| Iron | 17 | 20 | Mars | 18 |
| Gold | 53 | 73 | Sun | 30 |
| Mercury | 68 | 76 | Mercury | 36 |
| Copper | 74 | 77 | Venus | 32 |
| Silver | 100 | 100 | Moon | 392 |
It would be reasonable to ask “why” such a strange association should exist.
Plants
Plants reflect the transition from cosmic life forces to lifeless shadows. See the diagram below:

It would be interesting to understand “why” this is.
The Hidden Messages in Water
Water is a strange, unique fluid. It behaves as a liquid crystal that has been found to take up information from various sources to produce specific crystalline structures. Still water has a different form from water that has been moving, as in a waterfall. It is this capacity to take on the form of input information, usually as a diluted solution of a substance that is the basis of homeopathic medicine. Work done by the Japanese Doctor Masaru Emoto and documented in “The Hidden Messages in Water” has demonstrated the changing crystalline forms of frozen water depending on information content. Click here to learn more about Dr Emoto’s work and see images of the water crystals.
It would be interesting to know “why” this could be?
Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci may have been one of mankind’s most avid inquisitive geniuses. His childhood was one of open freedom to discover nature and science, and his innate curiosity was not stifled by formal schooling.
Human Achievement
Professor Glenn Doman, the founder of the Institute for Human Achievement in Philadelphia, spent his lifetime discovering the untapped intelligence of healthy children and those suffering brain injury. He concluded that every child born has a greater potential intelligence than Leonardo da Vinci ever had. Every parent should think about this next time they are asked Why? Knowing “why” and how to improve our so-called education systems would be invaluable.
Telepathy and Morphic Resonance
Doctor Rupert Sheldrake’s research has scientifically demonstrated that some form of telepathy exists for humans and even dogs. He has further suggested that there is a form-shaping field force he terms “Morphic Resonance” that we can all use. When a large group of individuals focus on a specific thought, others can pick it up.
Read Rupert Sheldrake’s book, “Morphic Resonance”, which explains how forms in nature develop. It is one of this century’s great advances in thinking.
It would be useful to know “why” this could be and how we could use it.
Magnetism
And there is one more mystery that has been a problem for me since I was a child, something so commonplace that it hardly deserves consideration, something that we all take for granted because we were given a pointless answer whenever we asked “Why?” It is the physical attraction of an iron bar towards a magnet! The repulsion of a north pole to another north pole of a magnet or the strong attraction of north to south poles. Should you dare ask why this is even possible when there is nothing connecting these objects, you will be told “it is magnetism” If you ask, what is magnetism, you will be told it is the effect of physical attraction between a magnet and a bar of iron!
I am still asking “why” and would be delighted to hear from anyone who can advise me on this matter!
