As Phizz Releases its first annual Hydration Report
With hydration a known cornerstone of good health, new research* out today, reveals some surprising home truths about the nation’s hydration habits. In fact, whilst a whopping 97% of us understand that being hydrated is important, a third of us (32%) admit that we can go a whole day without drinking any water at all.
The research, conducted amongst over 1,000 adults, was commissioned by Phizz, the UK’s no. 1 hydration enhancer**, ahead of hydration week (16th – 22nd March 2026). It reveals that whilst 35% of people feel dehydrated every single day, more than two thirds of us (68%) have no set routine when it comes to staying hydrated. The report also found that more than half the nation is not drinking enough water daily, with 51% waiting until they feel thirsty to drink any water or take a hydration supplement, and a shocking 26% claiming they only drink water when they have a hangover.
The Knowledge Gap in Daily Hydration
While the study shows that we are increasingly aware of the importance of hydration, people are still confused about how to best stay hydrated. The research reveals that over a third (38%) of us remain confused about how much water to drink a day, with half (52%) also unsure on the benefits of electrolytes, and 18% not realising that you can take electrolytes every day.

Recognizing the Hidden Signs of Dehydration
The impact of being dehydrated was also underestimated. While many recognize thirst and headaches as dehydration signs, few realize it also triggers irritability and increased stress hormones. The most commonly to least commonly identified signs:
- Dry Mouth – 82%
- Thirst – 81%
- Headache – 73%
- Fatigue – 63%
- Dizziness – 62%
- Poor Concentration – 54%
- Dull skin – 49%
- Poor Digestion – 35%
- Irritability – 34%
- Stress – 30%
Expert Tips to Optimize Your Hydration
Dr Paul Anastasiades, PhD Neuroscientist, Phizz Co-Founder and Head of Product Development, says, “Staying properly hydrated is key to supporting your daily health and wellbeing. One thing this survey highlights is that while many people are aware of the need to stay hydrated, they do not fully understand the impact dehydration can have on both your physical and cognitive capabilities. These negative effects can emerge quite quickly, as you only need to reach 1-2% dehydration (which equates to around a pint of water) before you start to feel tired, irritable and your heart, digestive system and other organs begin to function less effectively.”
With hydration being such a simple way to boost your daily health, he shares his top tips on how to prevent dehydration.
- When you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated – Over half of us wait to feel thirsty to hydrate, by which point we are already dehydrated. It is much better to drink small amounts regularly to prevent dehydration than wait to refill once the symptoms emerge.
- Electrolytes can help support hydration – Proper hydration requires both water and electrolytes. They aren’t just for replacing sweat, electrolytes assist your body to absorb and retain water. They also contribute to nerve and muscle function and energy metabolism, helping you think clearer, feel more awake, and perform at your best, whether in the gym, at work, or traveling.
- Create a daily ritual that works for you – Most of us struggle to drink enough water, so establish a daily routine—like carrying a bottle or using supplements.
- Hydrate faster and smarter – With drinking enough water a clear challenge for many, consider a hydration supplement. For example, Phizz is a hypotonic drink that helps hydrate 3x faster than water alone, plus our 3-in-1 formula features 7 key electrolytes and 18 essential vitamins making it an all-in-one solution for everyday life.

ABOUT PHIZZ
- Phizz leads the UK as the number one hydration enhancer*, providing a range of science-led, award-winning products that transform lives through better hydration.
- In 2015, three Australians and a British neuroscientist launched the brand after discovering a massive hydration gap: travellers lose up to six liters of water flying from Melbourne to London. That insight sparked a journey into how dehydration affects performance, recovery, and daily wellbeing
- Co-Founder and CEO Dan Cray explains: “We discovered that manufacturers didn’t design traditional sports drinks for daily life—and the science behind their hydration benefits just doesn’t hold up. We wanted something that worked harder – science-led hydration that’s effective, delicious, and easy to make a daily habit. That’s what Phizz delivers.”
- Co-founder Dr. Paul Anastasiades used his neuroscience expertise to develop a delicious, science-led, and effective formula for modern life.
- What began as a niche solution quickly gained traction with pro athletes, global airlines, and major UK retailers. In fact, every major UK supermarket now stocks the brand, including its signature Daily 3-in-1 and the brand-new Daily Energy.
