There More to Hearing Than You Think!
Almost all you need to know about living a long, healthy, active life is contained in my small book, “Be Your Own Doctor of Health and Happiness,” but I recently discovered one other factor that I had ignored for a number of years.
Hearing Loss!
With maybe a few exceptions, most of us tend to lose hearing acuity as we grow older. I knew that we don’t see with our eyes or hear with our ears, but see and hear with our brains! Our eyes and ears are the receptors of signals; however, it is our brain that deciphers these signals to make images or sounds we can recognise.
So when I was told on expert authority that mild hearing deficiencies would demand extra use of many areas of the brain, attempting to improve our hearing understanding, I should not have been surprised! Hearing aids that reduce auditory deficits would improve our general mental state by removing the added burden of poor sound reception.
Just as it was a surprise to me when I discovered, with my own research, that what we eat affects how we breathe and how we breathe affects what we eat, this new nugget of information has made me aware of the link between our hearing and our general mental capacity.
Obvious when you think about it, but most of us don’t think about it! Always wanting to be brighter, I have now accepted a hearing aid to help both my hearing and my brain! Will you do the same?
